Broken Garage Door Springs
Broken springs in your garage door in Palatine can be a very inconvenient and frustrating problem. Not only can it prevent your garage door from opening and closing correctly, but it can also be a very dangerous issue, so you’ll need professional help to rectify it. If your spring has broken, don’t try to open the door on your own either manually or with the opener as there is a high risk of injury. There are two types of commonly used garage door springs, which are:
Extension Springs
These springs are mounted on both sides of the garage door and attached to the track using a system of cables and pulleys that are then attached to bottom brackets. When these springs are activated, they provide the power needed by the cables and pulleys to open and close the door. However, a broken extension spring can also be the most dangerous since there is a high risk of it flying off the door and causing injury or damage.
Torsion Springs
If you have a broken extension spring, we recommend upgrading to a safer torsion spring system. These are springs that are mounted above the garage door on a spring bar or torsion tube with drums on both ends. Cables are attached to the bottom bracket and wrap around the drums when the door is opened or closed.
