Broken Garage Door Springs
Broken garage door springs can cause the entire mechanism to cease working correctly and safely. It can be a frustrating, inconvenient problem that prevents you from using your garage until it is repaired. Broken springs can also be very dangerous, especially if you have extension springs that can fly off the mechanism and hit vehicles, items, or people inside the garage. If your garage door spring is broken, it is best to avoid trying to open the door by yourself and call our professionals to help. There are two types of commonly used garage door springs, which are:
Extension Springs
Extension springs are mounted on either side of the garage door, where a system of cables and pulleys are used to attach them to the track. The cables and pulleys are then attached to bottom door brackets and are used to lift the door open. Since extension springs can easily fly off when broken, you may want to consider upgrading a broken extension spring system to a safer torsion spring system.
Torsion Springs
The springs are mounted on a spring bar or torsion tube above the garage door opening, with drums placed at either end. Cables are attached to the bottom bracket on the door. When the door is opened or closed, the cables will be wound around the drums.
