New springs go on as a matched pair and are wound to the weight we measured rather than to a chart. Set correctly, the door will sit still wherever you stop it, and a finger under the bottom section is enough to start it moving. Opener force and travel limits are reset afterwards, the door is cycled several times, and the safety reverse is tested before we pack up.

If the door feels like a dead lump and will not hold position on its own, the spring is not carrying it and the opener has been doing a job it was never built for.
