Track Alignment and Off-Track Repairs in Lincolnwood
Track faults tend to announce themselves at one particular point in the door's travel, and where that point falls narrows the problem considerably. A door that catches in the last foot before the floor is a different job from one that grinds as it flattens out along the ceiling, which is different again from one that binds the whole way and simply feels tight.

BH Garage Door straightens, re-hangs and replaces track across Lincolnwood, on the attached garages that make up most of the village and on the detached ones sitting at the back of a long drive.
The Rear Hangers Nobody Has Looked At Since the House Was Built
Horizontal track does not float. It hangs off angle iron fixed into the joists at the back of the garage, and in a mid-century attached garage that steelwork has been up there for decades carrying a door that has since been replaced with a heavier one. Hangers sag, lag screws back out of dry timber, and the rear of the track slowly drops.
The symptom is noise and roughness at the top of travel, sometimes with the door bouncing as it flattens out. It is also why doors come off at the back rather than the front. Re-hanging the horizontals level and re-fixing into sound timber cures a lot of complaints that get blamed on the opener.
Low Headroom in a Fifties Attached Garage
Older attached garages here were not built with much room between the top of the opening and the ceiling. Where a previous replacement squeezed standard-lift track into a space that never really had it, the curve is too tight and the top rollers fight it on every cycle. You get wear on one flange of the track and a door that scrapes at the transition.
The correct answer is a low-headroom conversion rather than more lubricant. It changes the radius of the curve and the position of the top fixture so the door makes the turn instead of being forced round it.
Straightened, Replaced, Then Checked Properly
Vertical track that has taken a knock can often be trued in place if the steel has bowed rather than creased. Once it has folded, it gets replaced, because a straightened crease never holds its shape under load and the roller finds it again every pass. Bent horizontals are almost always a replacement.
Getting the door back on the rails is only half the work. Afterwards it is cycled several times, checked for even gaps at both jambs, and the rollers, hinges and bottom brackets are inspected, since a door that jumped its track has usually damaged something on the way out. If the reason it came off was a cable or a spring, fixing the track alone just books the next visit.

Questions
Lincolnwood questions about this job
Can bent track be hammered straight?
Gently, and only where the steel has bowed rather than creased. A fold leaves a hard line the roller catches on every pass and no amount of persuasion removes it. Where a section has been folded, replacing that section is the honest fix.
The door has come off on one side. Can I lift it back into the channel?
Please do not. The door is still under spring tension even when it is off its rails, and the usual result of a DIY reseat is a buckled section or a hand caught between roller and track. Unplug the opener, leave the door where it is, and call.
Do the rollers get changed at the same time as the track?
Not automatically, but we check them, and often the answer is yes. Worn or seized rollers are what push a door out of its channel in the first place, so replacing track without looking at what runs in it tends not to hold. If yours are the original steel wheels we will show you the play in them.
