Sensors Get Knocked, Not Broken
The photo eyes sit no higher than six inches off the floor at each side of the opening. On a two-car door that beam has to cross the full width of the opening, so a bracket nudged by a bin, a bike or a snow shovel is enough to stop the door closing. The symptom is a door that starts down, changes its mind and goes back up, with the opener light blinking a count at you.
Most of the time it is alignment, a loose bracket or a wire pinched behind a shelf. Low evening sun can also wash out the receiver on a west-facing garage. We align them properly, secure the wiring, then test the reverse against an obstruction rather than simply clearing the fault code and driving off.
