An unheated garage off an alley collects dust, road grit and whatever blows in under the door. Open bearings take all of it in. Add a winter of meltwater dripping off a car into the bottom of the vertical track and the race rusts from the inside out. Top rollers are a separate case. The roller in the top fixture adjusts in and out, and that adjustment sets how firmly the top section holds against the header. Change rollers without resetting it and you end up with a door that seals badly or drags every time it goes round the curve.
Rollers Are a Symptom as Often as a Cause
A door that keeps eating rollers on one side is telling you something else is wrong. Track pulled off a jamb that has settled, a bent radius section, a bottom bracket out of square, a slab that has heaved: any of those loads one wheel harder than the other nine. Fitting new rollers into that resets the clock and changes nothing else.
So the whole run gets looked at before parts go on. Track spacing at the top and at the floor, hinge condition on an older steel door, and whether the door is actually balanced. Rollers are inexpensive. Doing the job twice is not.

If what you are hearing is a hollow knock at the curve or a rattle overhead, the rollers are not the cause and swapping them will not fix it.
A roller has come out of the channel. Can I press it back in?
Leave it alone. Once a roller is out, the door is no longer supported the way it was designed to be, and the counterbalance is still holding full tension behind it. Putting it back without clamping the door first is how people pull a section out of true or trap a hand doing it.
