Rollers Are Half of Any Track Problem
Track and rollers wear as a pair. The plastic rollers fitted to a lot of build-out-era doors develop flat spots and start scraping the rail, which is where most of the grinding noise comes from. Steel rollers with dry bearings do the same and add a rattle you can hear from inside the house.
Nylon rollers on sealed bearings run quieter and are gentler on the rail. On a door that is already apart for track work, swapping them is a small addition and it is usually what stops the noise for good.
Alignment Is Measured Work, Not Persuasion
A door running out of true drags on the opener, which pushes up the force setting, which hides the next fault until something breaks properly. It also loads the cables unevenly and chews the hinges at the section joints.
Rails get set to the manufacturer's spacing, brackets are refastened into sound framing rather than the old holes, and the door is run through several complete cycles to confirm it tracks straight under its own weight with the opener disconnected.
