Do not stand or reach under a door held up by anything other than an intact spring, and do not move a car in or out beneath a door hanging crooked in its opening.
With the door shut and the springs still whole, the red cord takes the opener out of the equation so the door can be raised by hand. If a spring has snapped, leave it exactly where it is. Nothing is holding it up and it will not come down gently. If the door is up and refuses to come down, do not force it, and say so on the phone so the technician arrives ready to secure the opening.

The order of business on an urgent call is safety, then function, then finish. In practice that is often a clamp on the track so nothing can travel, or getting the door high enough to reverse a car out and then pinning it there until the parts go in.
Most of these are completed on the same visit, because springs, cables, drums, rollers, brackets and the common opener parts all ride on the truck. The exception is a damaged section, which has to be ordered in. Where that happens we get the opening closed and secured before leaving, so nobody spends the night with a garage standing open waiting on a delivery.
