The one thing that reliably spoils a connected opener is Wi-Fi that does not quite reach. Sensors, Limits and Force Get Set, Not Skipped
Photo eyes are mounted no higher than six inches off the floor, aligned until the indicator sits solid rather than flickering, and wired without loose splices dangling off a joist. Travel limits are set so the door seals against the floor without grinding into it. Force settings are adjusted to how the door actually runs.
That last step is where a new opener exposes an old problem. If the door is out of balance, the force has to be wound up to compensate, and winding it up is exactly what defeats the safety reversal. We test the balance by hand before setting anything, and we will tell you if the springs are the real job.

Can my existing opener be made smart instead of replaced?
