Designing a Door That Suits a Bolingbrook Elevation
On a great many Bolingbrook houses the garage door is the biggest single thing visible from the street. That is especially true of the front-facing three-car garages built from the late 1990s onward, where the door line occupies more of the elevation than the front door, the windows and the porch put together.

Which means the specification deserves proper time. BH Garage Door works through material, panel profile, glazing, colour and hardware on site, with the house in front of us in daylight rather than a catalogue on a kitchen table.
Reading the House Before Reading the Catalogue
The split-levels and quad-levels in the older parts of the village usually have a single or narrow double bay set into brick and siding, often slightly recessed under the upper floor. Those carry a restrained flush or short-panel door well. Heavy carriage detailing on a small recessed opening tends to look fussy from the pavement.
The newer two-storey builds present the opposite problem. A wide bank of door needs something to break it up: a raised long panel, a carriage overlay with strap hardware, or a top row of glazing. Without one of those you are looking at a blank rectangle across the front of the house.
Material, Insulation and the Weight That Follows
Heavier-gauge steel, aluminium with glass, composite that will take a stain, or genuine wood. Each has a different weight, a different upkeep story and a different response to a Will County winter. Wood looks superb and asks to be refinished. Insulated steel is stiffer, quieter and warmer, which is the usual answer on an attached garage with rooms above it.
Whatever gets chosen, the weight changes, and the springs have to be specified to the new number. A custom door running on springs sized for the old one is a door that will not hold position and an opener that will not last. The hardware is part of the design conversation, not an afterthought at the end of it.
Colour, Glazing and Which Way the Front Faces
Colour gets matched against the siding and the trim outdoors in daylight, because a chip read under a shop light is a dependable way to end up with a door that argues with the brick. Where an exact match is not on the standard chart, factory finishes can generally be specified to a colour.
Glazing deserves a moment's thought about orientation. A west-facing frontage takes full afternoon sun all summer, which is fine light in the garage and a fair amount of heat with it, so obscured or insulated glass handles it better than clear. On a north-facing front, clear glass is the sensible pick for the daylight it brings in.

Questions
Bolingbrook questions about this job
How long does a custom door take to arrive?
Longer than a stock door, because it is built to order. You get the lead time in writing when the specification is confirmed, and the existing door keeps working right up until fitting day.
Can two bays of different widths be made to look like one design?
Yes. Panel profile, colour and hardware carry the look. Differing widths are normal, and the panel layout is set so the horizontal lines run through at the same heights across both doors.
Will an HOA need to approve the design?
Some Bolingbrook subdivisions carry covenants covering exterior finishes. Worth checking before you order. We can supply the specification and finish details in a form you can submit.
