Replacing One Section Instead of a Whole Park Ridge Door

Four things have to line up: the embossment, which might be raised panel, long panel, flush or ribbed; the surface texture, since woodgrain and smooth read very differently in daylight; the section height, commonly eighteen, twenty-one or twenty-four inches; and the colour. That last one is the trap. A factory-fresh section next to twenty years of weathering shows even when the colour code is identical, and sometimes the answer is a new section plus repainting the whole door.

Where a series is discontinued there are two routes. Fit a compatible section from a current line and accept a visible difference, or put the money toward a replacement door. One damaged section on an otherwise sound door is well worth doing. Three gone on a door past twenty years usually is not, and you get told that plainly rather than sold the repair.

A section is not a skin. It carries the hinge line, the roller stems, any strut across its width, and on the bottom section the brackets that the lift cables pull on. This is why a dented door often starts drifting in the track weeks later: the crease has twisted the hinge line out of plane and the rollers no longer sit square to the channel.

Weight is the other half of it. Sections differ in construction, and a replacement heavier or lighter than what came off changes the total the springs were wound for. Swapping a rotted timber section for a steel one noticeably alters the balance. So the sequence is: door down and tension controlled, hinges apart, old section out, new section in with fresh hinges where the originals are worn, then balance checked by hand and the opener reset.
