Track Repair and Realignment in Naperville
A door that runs cleanly for three feet and then grinds, shudders or stops at the same height every single time has a track problem. Somewhere along that run there is a dent, a bracket that has drifted, or a joint where the vertical track meets the curve and no longer lines up.

BH Garage Door straightens, re-sets and replaces garage door track in Naperville, from the narrow single-car openings on older detached garages to sixteen-foot doors on the newer south-side subdivisions.
Bent Track and an Out-of-Square Opening Are Different Faults
Dressing a dent back true is straightforward work. Track that refuses to hold alignment no matter how it is adjusted is telling you about the opening behind it instead. On older Naperville garages, particularly detached ones sitting on their own slab, decades of frost movement can rack the frame far enough that the two vertical tracks are no longer parallel.
There is little point bolting new track to a jamb that has moved. We check the opening for square and plumb before touching the track, and where the frame itself is the fault we say so. That is a different piece of work, and you should hear about it before it starts rather than halfway through.
The Rollers Go With the Track
Track damage and roller wear travel as a pair. A worn roller wobbles in the channel, digs at the inside edge and gradually widens the run until the door has slop in it. A bent track chews through rollers in return. Replace one without the other and you end up back where you started within a season.
Wide doors show this sooner. A sixteen-foot section carries more weight per hinge and is far less forgiving of track that is a quarter of an inch out of position, which is why the wide double doors in the newer parts of town account for a good share of the track calls we take.
When the Door Has Come Off Entirely
A door sitting at an angle with rollers out of the channel is not usually a write-off. The common outcome is a couple of rollers, a hinge, one section of vertical track and a reset of the cables, all in one visit.
What turns it into a bigger job is running the opener again to try to straighten it out. That is what takes a roller repair and makes it a bent top section and a torn hinge plate. Pull the manual release so nobody can power the door, leave it where it stands, keep cars and people clear, and book the call.

Questions
Naperville questions about this job
Can bent track be straightened, or does it have to be replaced?
Light dents and a flared flange can often be dressed back true on site. Once track has been kinked, crushed or twisted along its length it gets replaced, because a repaired kink keeps catching the roller and the door will never run quietly again.
The door only sticks at one point in its travel. Why is that?
Because the fault is fixed to a place on the track rather than to the door. A dent, a loose bracket, packed debris in the channel or the joint between the vertical and horizontal track will all bind at exactly the same height on every cycle.
My door has come off the track. Should I try to lift it back on?
No. The door is still connected to springs and cables under tension, and levering it can drop the whole thing. Disconnect the opener with the manual release so nobody runs the motor, keep people and vehicles clear of the opening, and let a technician re-seat it.
Does track repair mean taking the whole door down?
Rarely. Vertical track sections can normally be swapped with the door supported in place, and the horizontal track and curve come off without dismantling the panels. A full teardown only comes into it when the door sections themselves are bent.
