In a tuck-under garage the ceiling doubles as somebody's floor. A bare single-skin door lets that whole space track the outside temperature through winter, and the room over it never really comes up to heat whatever the thermostat is told. A layered door with a sound bottom seal and fresh perimeter weatherstrip makes a genuine difference to how that room feels through winter.

Rigidity arrives with it. Layered panels shrug off the dent a handlebar or a misjudged reverse leaves in thin steel, and they travel more quietly, which is the second thing anyone notices with a bedroom directly overhead.
