Putting a Tinley Park Garage Door on Your Phone
A smart opener is not a stronger motor. Mechanically it lifts the door exactly the way the unit already on your ceiling does. What it adds is a Wi-Fi radio and a position sensor, so the door can tell an app whether it is open or shut and take an instruction from anywhere you have signal.

For most households here that comes down to two things: knowing the door is down after you have already left, and letting somebody in without handing out a code that never gets changed. We fit full smart openers and retrofit controllers that add the same features to a sound existing unit.
Retrofit what you have, or replace the head unit
If your current opener is reasonably modern, has working photo eyes and a healthy drive gear, a controller wired to the wall button terminals with a tilt sensor on the door will do nearly everything a new smart unit does. It is the cheaper route and it is a short visit.
Replacing makes more sense when the head unit is already tired, when there is no photo eye protection on it, or when you want what a new unit brings anyway: a belt drive in place of a chain, battery backup for the evenings ComEd goes down in a storm, or a wall-mounted jackshaft that takes the motor off the ceiling entirely.
The part that actually causes trouble is the network
These openers use the 2.4 GHz band, and the garage tends to be the furthest point from the router with drywall, appliances and a parked car in between. Attached garages usually manage it. Detached ones frequently need an access point or a mesh node within range before anything works reliably.
Setting the unit up on your network is part of the install. Remotes and keypad get paired, and we check the app reports true door position from off the property rather than from the end of the driveway. If the signal will not hold you hear it from us on the day, not a fortnight later.
What changes once you can close a door you cannot see
Closing a door remotely is a different proposition to standing at the wall button, and the equipment is built accordingly. A remote close sets off an audible and visual warning before the door moves, and the photo eyes stay in charge the whole way down. Those beams are not optional in any of this, and an opener old enough to lack them is not a candidate for smart control.
Scheduled closing is worth switching on if the garage is your main way into the house. It shuts the door at a set time whether or not anybody remembered, which on an attached garage is a security measure rather than a convenience.

Questions
Tinley Park questions about this job
Will the buttons built into my car still work with a new opener?
Usually, although some rolling-code openers need a bridge module before the car's buttons will pair with them. We check which generation your vehicle uses and program it while we are there rather than leaving you with the manual.
Can I give someone access without giving it to them permanently?
Yes. Wireless keypads accept temporary codes, and the app side can issue guest access you can switch off again. Both beat a code passed around by word of mouth that nobody ever changes.
What happens to the app if the internet drops out?
The remote features stop until it returns. The opener carries on working normally from the remotes, the keypad and the wall button, because none of those go through your router. Battery backup covers the separate problem of the power being out.
