The Balance Test Comes First

The Fasteners Nobody Ever Tightens
Lag bolts holding the opener rail bracket into the header. The center bearing plate. The end bearing plates. Track brackets into the jamb. Hinge screws, which back themselves out over years of vibration on a door cycling several times a day. All of those get checked and torqued rather than glanced at.
Roller stems get checked for play in the hinge. Cable drum set screws get checked against the witness marks on the drum. The bottom brackets get inspected but not disturbed, because they sit under full cable tension and are not a place for anyone to put a wrench casually.
Opener Settings Drift, and So Do the Limits
Force settings creep upward over the years, usually because somebody turned them up to stop a stiffening door reversing halfway. Once the door has been freed off, those settings are now wrong in the other direction and get reset to the lowest value that closes the door reliably.
Down limits drift as well. A door stopping an inch short is not locked, and in an attached garage it is letting cold air in all winter. Photo eyes get realigned, auto-reverse gets tested against an obstruction on the floor, and the manual release is pulled and reset so you have used it once before the night you need it.

Is autumn or spring the better time to book it?
Autumn, for an attached garage. Grease stiffens as it gets cold, weatherseal that has gone hard shows up before the first freeze instead of after it, and a marginal opener is far likelier to give up on the first genuinely cold morning than in July.
The door was serviced last year and it is noisy again. Was it done properly?
Possibly it was, and the noise is a worn part that lubrication was covering up. Bearings and rollers already pitted will quieten for a few weeks after a service and then come back. That is a parts answer rather than a maintenance one.
