Sizing a Torsion Spring to the Door You Actually Have
A torsion spring is specified by four numbers: wire diameter, inside diameter, length and wind direction. Get any of them wrong and the door is either too heavy to hold at waist height or so light it creeps open on its own. There is no adjustment that fixes a wrong spring. There is only a different spring.

Four Numbers, and Why Guessing Fails
Wire diameter sets how much lift the spring produces per turn. Inside diameter has to match the cones and the shaft. Length sets total capacity. Wind direction is left or right, and a right-wind spring on the left side will unwind itself the first time the door runs.
We read what we can off the old spring, where the paint code and the coil count usually survive. Then we check it against what the door weighs rather than trusting it outright. One Spring or Two on the Same Shaft
