We had a new opener fitted last year and the door is noisier than it was before.
Usually the door rather than the unit. A new head driving worn steel rollers, dry hinges and loose track hardware amplifies everything that was already rattling. Nylon rollers, fresh hinges and the right lubricant settle most of it. If the rail was hung hard against a joist with nothing to absorb vibration, that is worth correcting too.
Can one opener handle a sixteen-foot insulated door?
Yes, with the right one. The rating has to suit the weight, the rail has to suit the height, and above all the springs have to be doing their job. A properly sprung wide door is not hard work for a decent DC motor. An under-sprung one will finish off any motor you put on it.
The door opens fully but stops a couple of inches short of the floor on the way down.
That is the down travel limit rather than a breakdown. It drifts as a door settles, and after any work on the springs. Small adjustment. We check the bottom seal and the slab while we are there, because a limit set short is sometimes covering for a door that will not sit flat.
