What a Safety Inspection Actually Checks in Aurora
Two of the safety checks on a garage door can be done by anyone in about a minute. Break the photo-eye beam with a foot while the door is closing and it should stop and go back up. Lay a length of two-by-four flat under the door and close onto it, and the door should reverse on contact. If either test fails, stop using the opener.

Where the Stored Energy Is
Everything genuinely dangerous on a garage door is a component holding tension: torsion springs on the shaft, extension springs along the tracks, and the lift cables anchored into the bottom brackets. The inspection covers coil condition, rust pitting, broken strands at the drum and at the anchor, the state of the bottom brackets, and whether extension springs have containment cables running through them.

It is usually the down travel limit set too far or the close force set too low, and it means the door is not sealing at the bottom. Worth correcting — but the same behaviour can also come from an obstruction or a binding track, so the cause gets found rather than the setting simply turned up.
