Steel gauge matters more than the brochure lets on. A wide door in thin steel oilcans, meaning the flat areas flex and pop as the door moves, and the fix is either a heavier gauge or an insulated sandwich construction that stiffens the section by design.

Insulation is not only about garage temperature. A polyurethane-filled section is far more rigid and considerably quieter than a hollow one, which is what you want on an attached garage under a bedroom. Real wood is achievable and handsome and needs refinishing on a schedule. A composite overlay on a steel core gets most of the look, holds a factory finish through freeze-thaw, and does not swell in a damp spring.

Stock doors come in a handful of fixed widths and two common heights. Anything else, an opening a mason built to no standard, a header lower than the industry assumes, a garage deep enough to run high-lift track, is a custom order, and it begins with measurements rather than a catalog.

We take the finished opening width and height, the headroom above it, the sideroom either side and the backroom to the rear wall, then confirm which track type those numbers allow.
