Measurements Before Mood Boards
A consultation that opens with styles has the order wrong. Aluminium with glass suits the modern rebuilds and is light, which is easy on the hardware, though full-view glazing gives up insulation value unless you specify insulated glass. Composite overlay on a steel core is the practical middle ground when you want a carriage look without the upkeep.
A Heavier Door Changes the Whole System
This is the part that gets skipped. A custom door with thicker insulation, applied overlays or glass can weigh considerably more than what came off. Springs have to be re-rated to the new weight, tracks and hinges have to suit the section thickness, and the opener needs enough capacity to guide it without straining.
We quote the door and its hardware as one system for that reason. A beautiful door running on springs sized for the old one will drift, slam and take the opener with it, and none of that is the door's fault.
