It is solvable, with a stepped seal or by dressing the floor, but it wants finding at the measure rather than on fitting day.
Choosing a door for a house that is already looked after
Nobody here is shopping for the thinnest panel on the sheet. The question is what will still look right in fifteen years alongside brick and trim that has been kept up, which usually points to a heavier gauge of steel, better hardware and a design that sits with the house instead of arguing with it.
Insulation earns its keep on an attached garage even when nobody heats the space, because that garage shares a wall and often a ceiling with rooms people live in. An insulated door is also stiffer and quieter. If the garage stands detached at the back of the lot, the case is weaker and we will tell you so.
The measure, the order and the day itself
Measuring covers opening width and height, headroom above the header, side room for the vertical track and back room to the rear wall. Openings on older builds are not always catalogue sizes, and that is usually answered with the right track configuration rather than a special-order door.
On the day the old door and track come out, the new sections go up one at a time, the spring and hardware are sized to the finished weight, and the opener is reconnected with its travel and force reset. The old door leaves with us. Nothing gets hung on a jamb we would not be willing to lag into ourselves.

The bottom of my door frame has gone soft. Is that a separate trade?
Not usually. Splicing or replacing rotten jamb and refixing sound trim is part of a proper installation, and we would rather do it than drive new lags into timber that will not hold them. If the damage runs back into structural framing we flag it at the measure so you can plan around it.
Is an insulated door worth it if the garage has no heating?
You still gain a stiffer, quieter door with better hardware. On an attached garage the insulation also slows the cold reaching the wall it shares with the house. On a detached garage nobody uses in winter the argument is mainly about the door's own strength, and we put it that way rather than overselling it.
How long does the garage stand open while the work is done?
A straightforward single-door replacement is usually a matter of hours from taking the old one down to testing the new one, so the opening is exposed for part of one day. If your garage cannot be left open for that stretch, say so when booking and we will schedule the fit around it.
