A bike leaning on a bracket, a trash bag, a spider web across the lens, or a bracket knocked loose by a bumper will all do it. So will low winter sun coming straight down a west-facing driveway into the receiving eye.
The clue is in the lights. Steady on one side and flickering on the other means the beam is broken or the alignment has drifted. If the sensors are clean, square and lit and the door still reverses, we look at the closing force setting and at whether the door itself is binding. An opener refusing to close a door is sometimes the opener being right.
Chain, Belt, and Everything the Room Above Hears
A chain drive in an attached garage sends noise straight up through the rail, the ceiling hangers and the joists. Half the noise complaints we get in Glenview are not the motor at all. They are steel rollers running dry in the track, loose lag bolts in the angle iron, or a rail hung tight against a joist with nothing to absorb the vibration.
The fixes are ordinary. Nylon rollers, fresh hinges, the right lubricant in the right places, isolated hanger mounts, and where the unit itself is the problem, a belt drive with a DC motor and a soft start.
