New springs are wound to the door, not to a chart. When the setting is right, the door sits still on its own at waist height and lifts with one hand. After that we reset opener force and travel limits, run the door through several cycles, and check that it reverses on contact before we pack the truck.

Usually. With the spring broken, the opener is pulling the whole weight of the door on its own, so it moves it a little, senses the load and gives up. Stop trying it. Repeated attempts strip the gear or bend the top section.
My car is shut inside and I need it. Can I lift the door by hand?
Only with help, and only if you can hold it. A double door with no working spring is genuinely heavy, and once it is up it will not stay up unless it is clamped or propped. If you are unsure, leave it and tell us the car is trapped when you book. That moves the call up.
We have a single and a double door in the same garage. Do both need work?
Not automatically. They carry different weights and often different spring types. We check both while we are there and tell you if the second one is close, but nothing gets replaced that does not need it.
