What Gets Checked on a Mount Prospect Garage Door

A fair share of what turns up was somebody's solution to an earlier problem. The emergency release cord cut short or tied up out of reach, which defeats the one thing that gets a door open in a power cut. The manual lock bar left engaged so the opener grinds against it on every cycle. Down-force wound to the stop because the door was reversing on a real obstruction and that seemed easier than finding it.

Sensors give themselves away too. Photo eyes mounted at mismatched heights, aimed at each other on a diagonal, or zip-tied to a shelf bracket well above floor level so that a child or a pet under the door is comfortably beneath the beam. None of that is visible from the driveway and all of it is straightforward to put right once found.

Where a bedroom sits over the garage, the opener's header bracket and the track hangers are anchored into the floor structure of that room. Hardware working loose up there is a noise problem and a load problem at the same time, so those fixings get a hand on them rather than a glance.

The other one worth naming is the second door on a two-door garage. If it opens twice a year, its rollers have seized in place, the bottom few inches of its cables have sat in whatever ran off the car, and its safety reverse has probably never been tested by anybody. The neglected door usually generates more findings than the one in daily use.
