When a torsion spring lets go, the door drops the short distance the cables allow and the shock travels through the rest of the system. We check the lift cables where they wind on the drums, the drums for a set screw that has slipped, both end bearing plates, the center bearing and the top of the vertical track. On an older door that shock tends to find an existing weak point rather than create a new one.
One more thing gets checked while the shaft is apart. If the opener has been run against a dead spring for days, and people do try because the door lifts a few inches each time, the drive gear or the trolley has usually taken damage too. Better found now than on a second visit.
